The Saturday morning Prep Rally helped us kick off our first state championship of the fall season.
The 5A, 4A and 3A boys' golf state tournaments were held this week in Grand Junction, Carbondale and Aurora, respectively. In 5A, Highlands Ranch High School's Kyle Pearson started day two tied for second, but a hole-in-one on the back nine proved to be a difference maker in helping him clinch the individual title. The Falcons finished as the team runner-up behind Regis Jesuit.
Discovery Canyon walked away with its first ever team championship on Tuesday. The Thunder claimed the 4A team title in large part thanks to Luke Trujillo who took home the individual crown after two playoff holes.
Finally, Kent Denver's Oliver Jack led the Sun Devils to a record ninth team title, after winning the individual crown on Tuesday. The junior defeated Estes Park's Ivan Richmond in a playoff hole.
In one of the most anticipated games of the season, powerhouses Valor Christian and Cherry Creek met on the gridiron. With an injured Bruins quarterback, the Eagles ran by their opponent behind the work of the McCaffrey brothers. Quarterback Dylan McCaffrey finished 20 of 31, 336 yards and four touchdowns, while younger brother Luke ran a 97-yard kickoff back to the end zone for his first varsity touchdown.
We finished with a huge matchup on the dirt. No. 1 ranked Strasburg taking on No. 4 Brush in a softball showdown.
