The 5A, 4A and 3A football classifications began their quests for a state title this week, as round one of the playoffs kicked off Friday night. The Saturday morning Prep Rally also featured highlights from the state soccer tournament.

Nine seeded Columbine traveled to Shea Stadium to take on Highlands Ranch. In one of the most exciting games of the night, this one would come down to a last second play. Cherry Creek and Ralston Valley were the first of a double-header at Stutler Bowl, and they were followed up by Legacy and Grandview. Also in the 5A classification, Fairview took on Regis Jesuit in a high-scoring (for one team) affair.

In 4A, Mesa Ridge traveled to play Ponderosa, and Longmont and Lewis-Palmer for a 3A round one game.

Finally, 30 seeded Fossil Ridge looked to keep its Cinderella post-season alive in the 5A soccer tournament, but they would need to get a big win over No. 2 ranked Boulder. Broomfield was also looking to upset top-ranked Denver East.
