GREENWOOD VILLAGE-- It's hard for any team to come back from a 14-point deficit in football.

It's even harder against the Cherry Creek defense.

That vaunted unit led No. 7 Creek to a 14-0 victory over Ralston Valley, sending the Bruins into the quarterfinals of the 5A playoffs.

Quarterback Trey Windham ran for two early touchdowns in the first quarter. It was more than his defense would even need.

It was the fourth time this season that Creek has held an opponent to seven points or less, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

In what amounted to a somewhat sloppy game with multiple turnovers from both teams, the Bruins only let the Mustangs even threaten to score once.

But on 4th and goal late for Ralston Valley, Creek's Trey Jones broke up a pass to preserve the shutout and essentially seal the victory.

Creek will take on Mullen next week in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.
