Thomas Jefferson improved to 5-1 on the season after defeating cross-town rival John F. Kennedy High School 41-0 Friday night.

Both teams had scoring chances in the first quarter, but failed to convert on key fourth downs that would have kept their drives alive. The Spartans finally got the board with less than two minutes remaining in the half when Daveon Hunter punched it in to give his team a 7-0 lead.

The second half started the same way. The Commanders finally got a solid possession together and appeared to be in scoring position at the end of the third quarter, but fumbled the ball into the end zone. It was picked up by Ayrton Nichols who took it back 100 yards the other way for a touchdown. TJ led 13-0 after a missed extra point.

Similar problems plagued Kennedy in the fourth quarter. The Commanders gave up two goal line turnovers and three interceptions, and the Spartans capitalized on their opponent's mistakes. Thomas Jefferson won 41-0, and will play Lincoln next Saturday.
