Hikers, cyclists and trail enthusiasts: there’s a new recreation hub coming to a mountain town.
Idaho Springs received a $62,000 grant from the Great Outdoors Colorado for a network of trails.
Alan Tiefenbach is the community development planner for Idaho Springs. He says the plan is to put 13 to 15 miles of trails on a mountain you can see from the town.
“It’s our hope eventually that something like a gondola could be brought up to the top of that mountain,” Tiefenbach said.
For a town that’s a little more than 2 square miles with a total of seven parks, this will be a big deal, Tiefenbach said.
The design of the trails hasn’t been hashed out yet. The city had a pre-bid meeting for that on Monday.
Designers learned more about the project during their site visit and have until April 6 to submit their proposals.
