For the third consecutive year, the Pomona Panthers will play for the 5A state football title. Pomona defeated Grandview 42-20 in the semifinals Saturday night at Legacy Stadium in Aurora.

The Panthers were quick to strike against the Wolves and took an early 14-0 lead thanks to two monster plays. First, quarterback Ryan Marquez hit a wide open David Ross for a 73-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0, then Marquez found Colten Muller for a 98-yard score.

Running back sensation Max Borghi also had a phenomenal night. The senior found the end zone five times, but two touchdowns were called back on penalties.

Pomona will face Eaglecrest in the 5A state championship game this Saturday, December 2 at 2:30 p.m. The Panthers fell to Valor Christian in the title game both in 2015 and 2016.
