Mikaela Shiffrin wins 12th World Cup race of the season

Shiffrin has 23 wins in the last two seasons.

Mikaela Shiffrin won her 12th World Cup race this season at the World Cup Finals in Are, Sweden on Saturday. Shiffrin's win in the slalom was also her fifth slalom win of the season.

Shiffrin clinched the World Cup overall title and slalom season title before this weekend's races.

“The slalom has always been really close to my heart,” said Shiffrin told NBC Sports. “To finish with a run like that was super special.”

Shiffrin's 12 World Cup wins matches Lindsey Vonn's American season record.

Now with 43 World Cup wins, Shiffrin moves into fifth place on the women's World Cup all-time wins list.
