The phrase "Google it" is as engrained in our culture as mythology was with the ancient Greeks.

But how much impact does the search engine giant, a unit of Alphabet Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG), actually have on Colorado's economy?

Google punches $2.88 billion into the state, according to the search engine giant's " Economic Impact Report" released today.

The report calculated Google's 2016 economic impact by examining data provided by its Google Search, AdWords, AdSense and Ad Grants products.

It says 40,000 Colorado businesses, website publishers and nonprofits benefited from using Google's advertising tools.
