CDOT is considering adding toll lanes to I-25 south of Denver to help ease heavy traffic congestion.
The lanes would be on I-25 between Castle Rock and Monument in both directions. Currently, there are only two lanes in that area.
It's an stretch CDOT hopes to start widening by 2019, but they will need need to secure up to $500 million dollars for the project.
They say a public private partnership with the option of managed toll lanes could be an option to pay for it.
"I know people don't always love them, that's absolutely something we're going to have to look at," said CDOT in a press conference Wednesday.
CDOT says this stretch is a major priority because it was built in 1960 and can't accommodate the traffic we're seeing today.
