It might be a mild day in the Denver metro area, but in the mountains, it’s a different story.

Wintry conditions led to multiple spinouts on eastbound Interstate 70 near Silverthorne, prompting the Colorado Department of Transportation to close the highway there Friday morning.

CDOT also warned of delays of up to two hours minutes heading up to the Eisenhower Tunnel.

Photos shared by Colorado State Patrol showed icy and snow-covered roads in the mountain corridor.

The central mountains are expected to get around 3 to 7 inches of new snow by 6 p.m. Friday, with more accumulation expected farther north.
