One motorcyclist was killed and another was seriously injured after they collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe in a busy intersection Monday night.

The crash happened at around 7:20 p.m. near South College Avenue and Swallow Road and prompted authorities to close the road for five hours, according to Fort Collins Police Services.

Investigators say the two motorcycles were headed south on College when the Tahoe tried to make a left turn.

One of the motorcyclists – who is under 18 years old – was able to avoid the SUV but laid his motorcycle down in the road. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The other motorcyclist hit the back of the Tahoe and was pronounced dead on the scene. The victim has not been identified.

Police say the woman driving the Chevrolet and her two passengers weren’t hurt.

Investigators are working to determine if speed on the part of the motorcyclists played a factor in the crash.
