Monday's commute is expected to be a bit messy, but rest assured - the Colorado Department of Transportation is ready and waiting with snow plows.
Snow began Sunday night and is expected to continue on and off before 10 a.m. before tapering off. A second round of snow is expected later in the afternoon and evening.
RELATED: Denver weather forecast
Totals look to be around 1 to 3 inches for the Denver metro area by Wednesday morning. The foothills could see up to 8 inches in some spots by Tuesday.
91 CDOT plows are deployed in the Denver Metro region and have been pre-treating roads. Plows will be out through the duration of this event. Nearly 100 plows will be out for Monday morning's commute.
Motorists are urged to:
- Keep informed of weather and road conditions before heading out
- Have appropriate tires for the snow
- Take it slow and stay a safe distance behind the plows and vehicles ahead
- Give themselves extra time to reach their destination
- Consider taking other transportation alternatives to work (light rail or bus)
CDOT crews plow interstates, U.S. highways and state highways.
Localities are responsible for city streets and other roads. CDOT's focus is plowing the most heavily traveled state-maintained roads first (interstates and major highways) before moving onto to the less traveled secondary roads.
