Burning garbage truck briefly closes E-470 in Parker

Northbound lanes were briefly closed Monday afternoon while crews worked to put out the fire.

PARKER, Colo. — All northbound lanes on E-470 were briefly closed in Parker Monday afternoon after a garbage truck caught fire.

South Metro Fire Rescue said just before 1 p.m. that crews responded to E-470 at Jordan road and were working to extinguish the fire.

However, the fire department said at 1:51 p.m. that the fire was still burning despite being sprayed with about 7,300 gallons.

The garbage truck was then towed with the still-burning load to a nearby dump followed by a fire engine, where crews planned to extinguish the fire.
