Sage Hospitality on Tuesday made its first venture into the Boulder market as a hotel owner and operator, opening the Hiltons on Canyon, a dual-branded set of buildings that feature a combined 376 rooms close to the University of Colorado campus.

The Embassy Suites Boulder offers 204 rooms and the largest private ballroom in Boulder, a 6,510-square-foot space that can accommodate groups as large as 650 people. Next to it, the Hilton Garden Inn Boulder features 172 rooms and The Garden Grille, a restaurant offering both nutritious food and a signature dish of chicken and waffles.

Sage CEO Walter Isenberg noted that the company manages the Homewood Suites by Hilton — Boulder but hadn’t taken the full financial risk of building a facility in the city before joining with development partner NAI Shames Makovsky of Denver on this project.

However, the Denver-based company had been intrigued by the growth of the Boulder market — both for its ability to attract outdoor-recreation visitors and for the new Google campus that is expected to draw significant numbers of business travelers — and felt these hotels on the corner of 28th Street and Canyon Boulevard represented the right opportunity to make a major investment in the community.
