Ski resorts trying to stick to opening day plans, unusually warm weather forcing some to delay

It's mid-November, but it sure doesn't feel like it in Colorado. There's not a lot of snow, and even more near-record heat than we're used to. This isn't good news for skiers and snowboarders who are anxious to hit the slopes.

It's mid-November, but it sure doesn't feel like it in Colorado. There's not a lot of snow, and even more near-record heat than we're used to.

Tuesday afternoon Vail and Eldora announced they need to push back their opening days.

Vail had planned to open Friday, November 18, but now it's set to open the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 25.

Eldora hopes to open sometime next week as well.

Monday Telluride announced it has to delay its opening day. Wolf Creek Ski area already did the same. They don't have new tentative dates posted as of yet.

This isn't good news for skiers and snowboarders who are anxious to hit the slopes. Right now, they don't have a lot of options thanks to mother nature.

So far only two resorts are open, and they don't have many runs, but hopefully that will all be changing this week.

Arapahoe Basin was the first to open. Right now, the resort only has one run open, the Lower Mountain Blues trail.

Loveland was the second resort to let snow enthusiasts hit its slopes. It has three green runs open right now, Catwalk, Mambo and Home Run.

It's not all bad news!

The 9NEWS forecast is looking like mother nature will give us some snow at the end of this week. Just in time for opening day at two resorts, Copper and Keystone, Friday.

Breckenridge and Purgatory down in Durango plan to open on Saturday, November 19.

Next week, five more resorts plan to allow visitors on their slopes:

Beaver Creek - Nov. 23
Winter Park - Nov. 23

Three have Thanksgiving Day openings:

Aspen/Snowmass - 11/24 - "Thanksjibbing"
Crested Butte Mountain Resort - 11/24
Steamboat Springs - 11/24

Monarch Mountain is an all-natural snow mountain so the ski season there usually gets a late start - opening somewhere around the end of November/start of December.
