Snow, rain create slick commute across Colorado

Rain and wet, heavy snow is falling across Colorado with wind gusts from 20 to 40 mph.

KUSA — The first round of snow and rain hits Denver just in time for the morning commute, then there's a chance for a few isolated light rain showers into Tuesday afternoon.

Most of the snow along the front range will melt on contact, with some accumulation on grassy areas toward the foothills. The mountains could see an additional 3" of snow Tuesday.

Skies will be cloudy with snow showers early before clearing out when the bulk of the moisture then heads to drought-stricken southern Colorado later Tuesday.

Highs will stay below average, topping out at 44 degrees in Denver with a north wind 10-20 mph.

As skies clear overnight we'll see our lows drop to below freezing, before warming quickly on Wednesday with sunshine and highs in the 60's.

The system won't stick around long, sunshine and warmer weather return midweek.
