Snow plow crews to be on duty Sunday

Beginning this year, whenever all Denver snow plows are activated, residential snow plows will also be activated!

Denver Public Works announced their plows would be up and operating Saturday night and on Sunday to battle potential snow totals hitting 10 inches as a winter storm rolls through Colorado.

The city's fleet of 70 plows will focus on main streets - that is, streets with stripes.

Residential snow plows will be activated if enough snow accumulates and the 4x4 trucks will be able to help smaller cars navigate the smaller streets.

Keep up to date on all traffic conditions in the city at the 9NEWS Traffic Center.

Things that Nancy Kuhn from Denver Public Works would like you to keep in mind about residential snow plows:

- They take one pass down the center of every side street to keep streets passable

- They shave off a few inches of snowpack and aren't meant to expose bare pavement

- They don't use de-icing materials

- The city usually only uses these plows during extreme conditions, but Public Works just got extra staff members allowing them to utilize them more often!

Beginning this year, whenever all Denver snow plows are activated, residential snow plows will also be activated!

Prepare for slippery roads!

Since we haven't had much snow this season - we'd love to see some pictures of it from you all if you're in a safe place and it's OK to do so. And, remember, Kyle Clark hates pictures of your snow-covered patio. You can submit photos to YourTake! And even message us on Facebook - or Twitter!
