The high winds will continue into the evening

The winds knocked out power for thousands and toppled trees.

KUSA — High winds will continue to impact Colorado into Tuesday night.

This comes after a front blew through the Front Range at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, bringing strong and dangerous wind gusts with it.

Peak wind gusts topped 80 miles per hour. Broomfield experienced a wind gust of 86 miles per hour.

For context, hurricane-strength winds start at 74 mph.

At 6 p.m., winds will decrease to 30 to 45 mph and continue to settle through the evening.

The National Weather Service has a HIGH WIND WARNING in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The westerly direction of the winds is particularity problematic on north to south roads and interstates.

The crosswinds creating difficult travel conditions for high profile and light-weight vehicles.

Bring inside or secure any loose outdoor items to prevent loss or damage.

Overnight winds will be out of the west at 15 to 25 mph, and much lighter by Wednesday morning.
