KUSA - She's generous, caring and funny. Susan McCauley has many of the attributes 9NEWS looks for in a 9 Who Care Winner. And takes the award for the month of October.

"Do you want a lap blanket?" It's not a holiday or someone's birthday, "How about a cookie?" Susan McCauley is just handing out gifts of blankets and cookies for the fun of it.

"My mother taught me [laughs] is part of the reason, but I think when an area has been good to you, you need to give back," says Susan.

9NEWS caught up with Susan at the Cottonwood Care Center in Brighton. Susan says she hopes her routine visits to the nursing home gives residents a picture of the outside world and lets them know they're still important. "It is something that we all enjoy it just gives you a warm feeling to be doing for others and rather than being one of the hollywood movie stars that doesn't care about anyone. We want people to know we care about everyone," says Susan.

Susan wears an angel necklace, angel wing earrings and even a ring. Being the Executive Director of the Harmony Angels Foundation is something she takes seriously. "We work with nursing homes and needy families, school children, veterans,we do a number of projects in the north metro area. We work with about 8 nursing homes and we come out during the year- things like Easter parties, Mother's Day and bring flowers, we do Father's Day and bring gifts," says Susan.

Susan says there are people that need help and she's happy to be there to lean on. She has no plans of slowing down in the future. "Not by choice. Just get older and just keep at it."

A humble 9 Who Care Winner, Susan says she couldn't do it alone and has a message for people reading this- get involved.  "It doesn't take much just come and visit. Some people bring stuff but you don't have to. but we think this is a good opportunity to educate the public that what we do are simple things that can be done by anyone, a small group, a group of neighbors."  Or a group of Angels.

If you know an outstanding volunteer please nominate them for a 9 Who Care Award. Just go to the community page on 9NEWS.com.
