Denver, CO - This week the Radio Television Digital News Association announced the regional winners of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. 9NEWS is the proud recipient of seven awards including Overall Excellence, Breaking News Coverage and Continuing Coverage.
9NEWS received more awards than any other station in the five state mountain region of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Wyoming. KUSA captured top honors in seven out of a possible 13 categories. 9NEWS Vice-President and News Director, Patti Dennis, said, "The recognition from the RTDNA further cements our commitment to our viewers: when they need the most complete coverage of Colorado news across the widest range of platforms including 9NEWS.com, the first and best place to turn is the Networks of 9NEWS."
9NEWS weekend anchor and 9Wants to Know reporter Kyle Clark claimed an individual award in the Writing category for a composite entry representative of his best work. A main component of that entry includes his coverage of the January 2009 Boulder wild fires for which he and 9NEWS were additionally cited in the Breaking News category.
9Wants to Know reporters Jace Larson and Deborah Sherman and executive producer Nicole Vap along with Clark were additionally cited for best Continuing Coverage of the ongoing story of confessed terrorist and Colorado resident Najibullah Zazi.
All of the regional honorees will now be considered for national Edward R. Murrow Awards which the RTDNA will announce in June.
RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name.
