Denver - The Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the 2010 Regional Emmy Nominees and 9NEWS topped the list. 9NEWS received a total of 67 nominations, including Station of Excellence, News Excellence and Best Daytime and Evening Newscasts. 9NEWS also claimed nominations in Breaking News and Spot News (3). The 67 nominations for KUSA/KTVD and Gannett are more than the combined nominations of its two closest competitors, KMGH and KCNC.

Chief Meteorologist Kathy Sabine was nominated for Best Weather Anchor while weekend anchor Kyle Clark was nominated for Best Anchor, one of his seven total nominations. Morning Sportscaster Susie Wargin received a nomination for Best Sportscaster.
The Heartland Chapter also gave several Emmy nods to the 9NEWS investigative team, 9Wants to Know. Deborah Sherman and Jace Larson each received five nominations, including Continuing Coverage for their work on a series of reports about admitted domestic terrorist, Najibullah Zazi. The team, including Kyle Clark, Executive Producer, Nicole Vap, and photographers Anna Hewson and Matt Arnold, was recognized with additional nominations for Investigative Report - Single Story (3), Investigative Series (2), Magazine Program/Special and Journalistic Enterprise (2). Larson's five nominations are his first ever Emmy nominations.
The Heartland Emmy Awards will be presented at the Comedy Works South in Greenwood Village and the Will Rogers Theatre in Oklahoma City on July 18.
