Emmy voters choose 9NEWS; dominates nominations

Denver, CO - In a live webcast event, the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the 2011 regional Emmy nominees and 9NEWS dominated the evening. 9NEWS received a total of 72 nominations, including Station Excellence, News Excellence, Community Service and Best Daytime (Four o'clock@9NEWS) and Evening Newscasts (9NEWS at 10 p.m. with two nominations in the category). 9NEWS also claimed nominations in Breaking News and Spot News. The 72 nominations for KUSA/KTVD and Gannett are more than the combined nominations of all other local news competitors.

9NEWS anchors Adele Arakawa, Mark Koebrich and weekend anchor Cheryl Preheim picked up three of the four nominations in the Best Anchor category while Chief Meteorologist Kathy Sabine was nominated for Best Weather Anchor.

The Heartland Chapter also gave several Emmy nods to the 9NEWS investigative team, 9Wants to Know. Deborah Sherman received five nominations including two nominations in the same Investigative News Single Story category. Sherman got additional nods for Investigative Series, General News and Journalistic Enterprise. 9Wants to Know colleague Jace Larson picked up an Emmy nod in the Politics/Government Single Story category.

9NEWS journalists also swept the nominations in Specialty Assignment Report Single News Story with all four nominated stories, as well as sweeping the new Video Journalist category as solo video journalists Dave Delozier, Matt Renoux and Kevin Torres each picked up nominations.

Delozier and 9NEWS reporter Chris Vanderveen led all 9NEWS entrants with seven total nominations each.

The 25th Annual Heartland Emmy Awards will be presented at the Seawell Grand Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on July 23. 9NEWS morning anchor Gary Shapiro will be inducted into this year's class of the Silver Circle.
