WASHINGTON - Nearly half of our waking hours are spent on the job, but is mixing dating with work a good idea?
The majority of employers permit dating in the office, but according to a Society for Human Resource Management Study, 85 percent of organizations have no written guidelines in place for what to do when hearts get broken. It's important to know how to deal with office romances if they go south.
"We do have a Legal Off Duty Activities law in Colorado so you cannot stop employees from dating one another in the state of Colorado. However, Managers and employees need to understand that I they fall in love at work they may need to go elsewhere if things go badly, so they understand what kind of risk they are taking," Lorrie Ray from Mountain States Employers Council said.
Problems arise with dating in the workplace due to concerns over sexual harassment, legal issues, and favoritism. It's important to weigh the pros and cons before embarking on an office romance.
