Seeking sweet, cool relief in Evergreen

While the coolness is debatable, the beauty is not.

Evergreen Lake Trail is one close-in option. The trail is a 1.3 mile loop. This beautiful manmade lake is actually the heart of Evergreen. The trail that circles the lake is a mirror of the town itself-it is urban and rural, conventional and unusual.

The rustic log building at the west end of the lake serves as a boathouse in summer, so you can add water fun to your outing if you so choose, by renting paddleboats and canoes. The trail eventually winds around to Evergreen Dam, where you'll often see a string of ducks perched at the edge of the spillway.

The Evergreen Metro District and Evergreen Parks & Recreation District established a park below the dam and placed a sculpture to honor local civic leader Ross Grimes in the 1990s. And not far from that, another sculpture, this one by noted western artist Frederic Remington, is a great photo opportunity.

Evergreen Garden Club volunteers have designed, planted and  maintained a set of gardens below the dam where several different varieties of flowers and plants are on view.
