The incident happened at 6 a.m., near 9th and Walnut Street following reports of a man on campus with a sword.

Police say the suspect was killed after attacking an officer with what appeared to be a sword.

The officer involved was transported to a local hospital and is in critical, but stable condition. Police believe the officer's hand was injured during the incident and he may have lost a finger.

A Veterans Day race in the area went on as planned later in the day.

The incident remains under investigation.
