KUSA - If you're looking for an insider perspective on the upcoming Academy Awards, look no further.
Mr. Moviefone (a.k.a. Russ Leatherman) spoke to 9NEWS regarding his thoughts on some of the upcoming Oscar nominations.
Best Picture
Leatherman concludes that silence is golden, which is why The Artist is in the running. It's a rare occurrence for the Academy to have an opportunity to nominate a silent film. He notes that we may never see something like this again that is so different and unique.
Best Actor
Going off of the momentum from The Artist, Leatherman believes Jean Dujardin will take the award. He believes Dujardin has the charming moments and accent that the Academy looks highly on.
Best Actress/Supporting Actress
Leatherman says The Help contains the winners for the female actress awards since it was biggest blockbuster of the year. Viola Davis is likely to take best actress, and Octavia Spencer will take best supporting actress. They are loved because of their personalities and the overall success of The Help.
Best Supporting Actor
If there is such thing as a shoe-in for best supporting actor, he believes Christopher Plumber is it. His role in Beginners has won every single award leading up to the Oscars.
Best Director
Michel Hazanavicius of The Artist is Leatherman's pick. He concludes that generally the best picture and best director go hand-in-hand. Also, Hazanavicius won the director's guild award. Once again, silence may be golden.
On a side note, Leatherman notes that his predictions of the top winners have all been correct in the last couple of years. If you would like to try your luck at making predictions, go to moviefone.com for a chance to win free movie tickets for a year.
