"Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown Connecticut, and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow's Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher," stated a release from the company released late Friday night. "Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones."
No rescheduled premiere date was listed on the statement for the film, due out Dec. 21, which was shot primarily in Pittsburgh.
Cruise stars as an ex-military police officer trying to solve a case involving a hired killer in the violent action film based on the best-selling series by British author Lee Child.
In a positive review for Reacher, The Hollywood Reporter described a "disturbing" opening sequence which "shows a sniper position himself in a parking garage across the water from Pittsburgh's baseball stadium" before gunning down "what looks to be five random targets on the riverfront promenade."
