Colorado actress helps bring 'Rio 2' to colorful life

KUSA - Rio 2 is out this week. It's the sequel to the wildly popular 2011 film about a bird named Blu and his search for love in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro.

The sequel takes Blu, his true love Jewel and their new family out of the city and into the Amazon rainforest. One of the little birds in the family. Carla, is voiced by Colorado native Rachel Crow.

Crow, who is a singer, actress and comedian, was born and raised in Mead. Crow sang her first song (Faith Hill's "Breathe") at 18 months-old and first performed in public at age six as part of her school's talent show. Her first big break came when she participated in the debut season of the U.S. version of The X Factor in 2011 where she finished in 5th place .

After being eliminated from The X Factor, Crow met with Disney for possible roles in future Disney productions. She's appeared on many TV shows, including BrainSurge, Inside Edition, Big Time Rush, Figure It Out and The Wendy Williams Show. Her debut EP, Rachel Crow, debuted on iTunes charts on number 71. Rio 2 is her first film appearance.

She told 9NEWS she is very excited for audiences to see the finished product. Crow and about 50 friends and family members were able to screen the film during a weekend sneak peek.
