Denver's silent discos create a party only you can hear

DENVER - Dance like no one is watching. Dance like no one is listening.

Using wireless headphones, a company in Denver is creating parties in places you might not expect.

Event attendees put on the noise-canceling headphones and pick one of three channels the DJs are spinning on a few feet away.

"It's an interesting experience because in one way you're sequestered from everyone else because you don't know what they are listening to," said Christina Garcia, who was dancing at a silent disco Saturday. "But you know there are some people on the same channel as you and even if you're in you're own little world, you have a certain level of connectivity to the rest of the people."

While silent discos have been popping up at music festivals and lounges, Sound Off hopes the experience let's people have fun without having to worry about noise permits in other places.

From the Westword Music Showcase to the Big Wonderful market, the dance parties will be happening in Denver all summer long.
