DENVER - For all of you basics out there, it’s time to pull those UGGs out from the back of the closet and race to the nearest Starbucks, because the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back.
You know who you are. There are several here at 9NEWS.
Even though temps in Colorado are still feeling summer-like, businesses are gearing up for the pumpkin spice product war, and it’s starting earlier than ever.
Starbucks isn’t officially adding the PSL to its menu until September 6, but customers can order one now at any Starbucks location, according to their website. The company even launched a PSL Fan Pass app to get customers excited for early access to their favorite drink.
Dunkin’ Donuts started serving their lineup of pumpkin-flavored coffee, lattes, macchiatos and baked goods on Aug. 29. McDonald’s followed, releasing their version on Aug. 31.
The pumpkin spice craze seems to get more insane each year. We’ve seen everything from pumpkin spice-flavored potato chips, bagels, yogurt and vodka.
Colorado’s own Denver Beer Co. released their seasonal brew, Hey! Pumpkin, on Aug. 15 both on-tap and in cans.
"As a brewer, it's a little crazy to me that people want to drink pumpkin beers so early in August," head brewer Jason Buehler told 9NEWS. "It seems like every year breweries are releasing the beer earlier and earlier, so we have to keep up."
Buehler said there is shortage this year for the type of pumpkin brewers use, and that Denver Beer Co. was lucky enough to have some on contract from the end of last season.
No matter what your preference is, coffee or beer, there is probably something PSL out there for you.
And for those desperately trying to hold on to summer, the return of everyone’s beloved spice is surely a sign that fall has arrived, whether we are ready or not.
