One week left until election day, and Hillary Clinton has ramped up her spending in the Denver metro area.
Tuesday morning, the four major TV stations in Denver reported a combined total of $666,150 in ads purchased from Hillary Clinton's campaign – that’s 661 more ads on local stations than were planned Monday.
About half of that cash went to KUSA, and it includes the purchase of one single ad – to run during the Denver Broncos game this coming weekend – that costs $40,000.
A 9Wants to Know and Rocky Mountain PBS News analysis of 10 local news stations in Denver, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction revealed that the two presidential candidates, and a handful of outside groups, have spent at least $14.2 million on advertisements around the state. That’s more than 15,000 political ads either promoting or trashing the presidential candidates.
Close to $11 million was spent on running ads with the Denver news stations, KUSA, KMGH, KCNC and KDVR. In Denver – the Clinton campaign has spent $2.6 million and Trump’s campaign has put in close to $3.7 million. Priorities USA, a political action committee that opposes Trump – spent $4 million on ads in the Denver area so far this year. Anti-Clinton groups including “Stop Hillary” and the NRA spent just $764,000.
Still, campaign ads in the Denver metro area are actually pretty weak compared to the 2014 election. Back then, Senate candidates Mark Udall and Cory Gardner, alongside outside spending groups, bought about $20 million in political ads in the Denver area.
That’s close to double what the presidential candidates and outside groups are spending this year.
