Flying with pies is apparently okay with the TSA.
Pies and cakes are good for both checked baggage and carry-ons, but the TSA officer can make the final decision, so be cautiously optimistic about your baked goods making it to your destination. And no, the decision does not require tasting your pie.
Cake, bread and turkey is all welcome on your lap, too.
But other foods like gravy, cranberry sauce, jams, cheese spreads and alcohol need to be checked.
And please, don't expect your carving knife to go un-checked.
