Denver Public Schools makes a $2.6 million pizza order

Blackjack Pizza is working on a $2.6 million pizza order.

The call came in from Denver Public Schools.

DPS signed an agreement with the Colorado-based Blackjack, which budgets $886,730, per year, to deliver pizza to schools.

Provided the pizza meets expectations, a two-year extension would be worth $2,660,190 over three years because 886,730 x 3 = 2,660,190.

Journalists tend to be bad at math, but good at pizza, so we'll take a stab at this.

An extra large, pepperoni pizza is $14.99.

And 886,730 ÷ 14.99 = 59,154 extra large pizzas.

But if DPS is paying full price for that many pies - that would be a scandal of immense proportion.

Call it Pizza-gate.

Mmm... I'd be happy to investigate.

Anyway, the district wasn't able to immediately tell us how many pizzas it's getting for taxpayers' 2.6 mil.

Fair to suppose it's many more than 59,000, since we know how much kids like pizza, and DPS does have 91,000 mouths to feed.
