HIGHLANDS RANCH, COLO. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is about to deal with a deluge of idiots.
There's a stack of cash sitting in the Sheriff's Lost and Found.
They gave our Steve Staeger some vague details about it because they know Steve's just slippery enough to try and claim it for himself.
We know the amount is in the hundreds, and it was found in a parking lot at the Highlands Ranch Town Center in August. They’re being very vague in their description, and rightfully so. They want the owner to describe the missing cash.
Now police are trying to reunite the cash with the rightful owner. And they know some of the wrong people will call.
“It ties up our phone lines, and we end up spending a lot of time and energy on those people when we’re just trying to find the owner," said Tracey Montano with sheriff's department.
If you do believe the money is yours, call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department at 303-660-7558. If you know it’s not yours and want to call anyway, please don’t be a jerk. The sheriff’s department has enough to do.
The owner of that cash has 30 days to claim it, otherwise it will go into the county coffers - the general fund actually.
Other things go into the lost and found too. They reunited a drone with its owner recently.
