Komen Colorado CEO Kallaway resigns

9NEWS at 6 p.m. 10/4/16.

The troubles for Komen Colorado continue. Its new CEO is out after just six months on the job.

Keri Kallaway's resignation comes a week after Komen's signature fundraising event, Denver's Race for the Cure. Two weeks ago, Kallaway was here on Next, acknowledging that she was trying to turn Komen Colorado around. The goal was to refocus, with Race for the Cure down 80 percent in net fundraising from its peak years ago.

"What we've learned is we need to become smarter and a little more sophisticated with our fundraising efforts. We know that an event-based fundraising model may not be the best way to try to push and drive total revenue," she told us then.

Komen Colorado's board president wouldn't say why Kalloway resigned, but said the board didn't force her out.

Next wasn't able to reach Kallaway today.

Komen Colorado says Race for the Cure will miss its fundraising goal this year, as we reported a few weeks ago.

Full disclosure: 9NEWS has been a partner and sponsor of Race for the Cure for many years. Our breast cancer awareness efforts continue.
