Next Question: How can a president campaign with Air Force One?

9NEWS at 6 p.m. 11/3/16.

President Obama is spending time this week flying around the country to campaign for Hillary Clinton.

We get asked the question each year - why should taxpayers pay for that?

Republicans are asking this year. Democrats were asking when President Bush did the same thing.

Here's how it works:

The FEC says the president, the first lady and the vice president are allowed to participate in campaigning. However, the campaign, or their political party, is supposed to pay for all of the political parts of the trip.

But you tend to see presidents squeeze in some official business during a campaign trip, so the costs are split.

And now you know.
