Why is Kyle's face in a new campaign ad?

9NEWS at 6 p.m. 10/27/16.

We've promised transparency here on Next so you should know why Kyle Clark’s face is about to show up in an ad for Democratic congressional candidate Morgan Carroll.

It's because of a question he asked Republican Congressman Mike Coffman in a recent debate:

Kyle Clark: Do you believe that Donald Trump is a sexual predator?

Mike Coffman:  Oh, I don't know.

Political campaigns are allowed to use news footage in campaign ads. In this case, the question and answer are presented in context.

The federal Communications Act prohibits 9NEWS from censoring the ads of candidates once they purchase time from our sales department.

The only way to ensure we never end up in a campaign ad is to never ask a pressing or interesting question. That's one way to cover politics, but it's not ours.
