MORRISON - John Denver. Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Lumineers. Colorado has been home to music icons past and present—and there’s a place to go to learn about the state’s musical influence and history.

“This state and city have had such a great history going back 100 years of music,” said Chuck Morris, president of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. There are about 30 to 35 music hall of fames in the country--we should have one here.”

The Colorado Music Hall of Fame finds its home in Morrison at the Red Rocks Trading Post. The hall of fame has been around since 2011, with the first inductees being John Denver and Red Rocks itself.

“We’re trying to educate people, and show them the history of Colorado music,” Morris said.

Each year there are new inductees. This year one of Colorado’s most famous musicians, Glenn Miller, will be inducted. Miller attended CU-Boulder for a short time and a ballroom on campus is named after him. In addition to Miller, five other musicians will be added to the hall of fame.

“It’s kind of mind boggling to me –it was a validation of my peers,” said Lannie Garrett, who will be inducted into the hall of fame April 16. “It just means the world to me.”

Garrett has been part of the music scene in Denver for about 40 years. She currently has a home at Lannie’s Clocktower Caberet in downtown Denver.

“I love to entertain people and the fact that I’ve been doing it for decades, and they’re still coming to see me after all this time--it’s kind of a miracle, and an amazing miracle to me,” Garrett said.

The Colorado Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony is April 16 at the Glenn Miller Ballroom on the University of Colorado-Boulder campus. Garrett will be performing along with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. For more information on the event and how to get tickets, please go to the Colorado Music Hall of Fame’s website:  http://cmhof.org/
