9NEWS gets first look at UNIQLO grand opening

KUSA - The wait is finally over for UNIQLO fans here in Denver.

The Japanese-based retailer is opening its first store in the Rocky Mountain region on Friday, but 9NEWS gets a special first-look on Thursday.

The two-story, 17,000-square-foot store will fill the previous Barnes & Noble location at the Denver Pavilions along the 16th Street Mall.

The company held a pop-up fashion show back in September to give Coloradans a preview of their items.

The chain carries trendy yet casual styles for men, women and kids at an affordable price, and is widely popular in Japan. It has a similar concept to the more familiar H&M stores.

“We look forward to bringing UNIQLO to the vibrant city of Denver, welcoming customers across the city and state,” Hiroshi Taki, the CEO of UNIQLO USA said.

The company was founded in 1984, and has opened more than 1,500 stores worldwide, with 45 locations in the U.S.

The first floor will have an area for Japanese technology items including HEATTECH, which adds a thin layer of warmth to clothing, which is perfect for skiers and snowboarders eager to hit the mountains this winter.

Athleisure wear, outerwear, slim fit pants, fluffy fleece and flannels will also be available, among other things.

UNIQLO is also debuting it’s All-Product Recycling Initiative at the store, where customers can drop off gently-used UNIQLO clothing in a bin at the store for donation to those in need.
