When temperatures slide drastically, it's best to protect both pumpkins and plants. While sheets are fine for protection from a light frost, it's best to be safe and pull everything indoors during a hard freeze. A cool enclosed porch or garage is fine; add a sheet covering if you still think it might freeze.
Consider making a charming fall display in a wheelbarrow or wagon to make protecting them easier. Just wheel them away from danger.
I'm also making sure to disconnect hoses from spigots and bringing other pots of flowers that still look good inside. With a bit of care, I expect to enjoy my fall display for weeks to come.
