200 people a day tube in the summer in Colorado now

GRANBY – When they visited the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch in July, the McCurdy family expected to get plenty of ranch…but not much snow.

But snow is exactly what they got thanks to a tubing hill that Robin Bartling with Design Concepts says is the only one of its kind in Colorado.

"This is the third one in the nation," Bartling said.

The hill uses a material called "SNOW-FLEX." It's only been open for a few days, but Trueman Hoffmeister with the YMCA of the Rockies says hundreds have already given it a spin.

"We have had about 200 people a day," he said.

Riders say the watered-down fake snow surface gives you the thrill of tubing…but in the summer.

It's so fun that Mary McCurdy went 13 times, and her family has a great story to tell the neighbors back home.

"It was accelerating and it's fast," McCurdy said.

The ride is free for people staying at the ranch, but those visiting just for the day have to pay $35. For that price, they also get to do all the other activities at the ranch as well.
