KUSA - The 9Health Fair is offering free BMI screening and weight-loss advice on Saturday.
Victoria Catenacci, associate professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, said a BMI screening helps people understand the health risks of extra weight, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension.
Catenacci also shared some weight-loss tips to help you make sure you're healthy and in shape.
She suggests keeping a food log, as this practice has been shown to help weight loss.
Catenacci says to lose one pound per week, you need to cut about 500 calories a day, and keeping a log can help you keep track of that.
She also says a formal weight loss program is one of the best ways to lose weight.
The 9Health Fair is offering a wide selection of research-based weight-loss programs as well as registered dietitians and physicians who specialize in weight-loss medications.
The fair is happening at the Anschutz Outpatient Pavilion at CU Hospital from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the Ethiopian Evangelical Church on South Lansing Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
