Hunger Free Colorado Launches a New Kind of Food Truck

COLORADO - More than 800,000 Coloradans are at risk of hunger, with at least 25 percent of working families going without enough food to meet their basic needs. To help connect families to available food and nutrition resources, Hunger Free Colorado, the state's leading anti-hunger organization, launched a new kind of food truck last week that will visit local neighborhoods throughout the Denver metro area. But this truck won't serve cupcakes, gourmet sandwiches or street tacos. It's serving up access to computers and personal support to help local residents apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as well as offering information on nearby food pantries and other nutrition programs.

9Cares Colorado Shares Summer Drive June 15

DENVER - On Saturday, June 15th 9NEWS will hold the 9Cares Colorado Shares Summer Drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the 9News parking lot at 500 Speer Blvd. 9News anchors and reporters will be collecting non-perishable food and clothing from viewers who drop off donations.

People's Fair June 1st!

Plans are nearly complete for this year's People's Fair an Art and Music Festival, produced by Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN). The People's Fair serves as the kick-off to the summer festival season, and will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 10:00am-9:00pm, and Sunday, June 2 from 10:00am-8:00pm at Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver.

COLORADO - Bringing home "gold" served as a driving force for 24 high schools vying in this year's Colorado School Breakfast Challenge, called the 2012-13 Breakfast Games. With a goal to improve overall student participation in their breakfast program, each competing school saw an up-tick in participation over the five-month period. Six schools around the state were recognized as winners of the challenge with an award and cash prize ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 during National School Breakfast Week, March 4-8.

DENVER - The Save A Life Denver program launched in 2010 with the lofty vision of helping to improve Denver residents' chances of surviving sudden cardiac arrest. To achieve this vision, we set a goal to place 1,000 publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in high traffic areas and areas of need throughout the City and County of Denver.
