The renowned actor and pilot will receive the organization's honored Spreading Wings Award on Nov. 14, at the Lowry-area museum. The award honors "those who have dedicated their lives to flight and advances in aviation."

In addition to playing several roles depicting characters who pilot planes and spacecrafts (think Han Solo from "Star Wars" and the President in "Air Force One"), Ford also supports the Experimental Aircraft Association and its Young Eagles program.

"Among his aviation achievements and interests is instilling that same sort of enthusiasm and the idea of freedom and responsibility with young people through programs like the Young Eagles and other initiatives that he has chaired," Greg Anderson, president and CEO of Wings Over the Rockies said.

Anderson spoke to 9NEWS announcing the museum would also be working with Ford to produce a museum-film about aerospace in the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado.

The 6th Annual Spreading Wings Gala is being held on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Wings Over the Rockies Museum located at 7711 East Academy Blvd. The event features cocktails, dinner, a live auction and a special presentation by Ford. Reservations are required
