MTV plants to televise 'Legally Blonde' musical

NEW YORK (AP) – Legally Blonde on Broadway will soon be Legally Blonde on MTV.

The stage musical version of the hit MGM movie will be broadcast Sept. 29 in its entirety on television, the network announced Monday.

"We are creating a one-of-a-kind special weekend event – done in a way only MTV can," Tony DiSanto, an MTV vice president, said. The televised program will be also include behind-the-scenes interviews with cast members. It will be rebroadcast several times at other dates to be announced.

The girl-power musical stars Laura Bell Bundy as Elle Woods, the fashion-conscious, would-be lawyer who, when dumped by her boyfriend, goes to Harvard Law School. The show, which is playing at the Palace Theatre, was directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
