Denver draws comic book lovers

DENVER - The Colorado Convention Center was buzzing this weekend with thousands of superheroes, Trekkies, Star Wars fans and others headed for Denver Comic Con.

Last year, the event celebrating the best in comics, sci-fi and more drew about 65,000 people. This year, they're expecting 75,000. A partial cast reunion of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" tv series is a highlight of this year's event, as well as appearances from Lou Ferrigno ("The Hulk") and Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar from the 60's classic show "Batman."

Also appearing, two former competitors from SyFy Channel's "Faceoff" reality series that features up and coming talented makeup designers who are headed for Hollywood. Tess Laeh and Tyler Green showed their stuff during 9NEWS 8 a.m. as they transformed a model into an elaborate space creature complete with latex and appliances.

Dressing up is a Denver Comic Con tradition.

9NEWS called around to a couple of costume shops around the area and superheroes are the biggest sellers leading up to the event. Other costumes growing in popularity are Dr. Who characters.
