Flooded fields means cancelation for Thorntonfest

It doesn't happen often although the weather is forcing Thorntonfest to cancel events planned for tomorrow.

THORNTON - It doesn't happen often, but the weather is forcing Thorntonfest to cancel events planned for Friday.

Flooded fields at Carpenter Park from all the hail, rain, and melting snow during the last two days means events are being called off for only the second time in 22 years.

A few events set for Saturday might go on, weather permitting. These include:

  • The Cottonwood Classic 5K, 8 a.m., Saturday, May 20, Thorncreek Crossing Shopping Center.
  • The Rocky Mountain Dock Dogs competition, Saturday/Sunday, May 20 & 21. It will be moved to the parking lot south of the Carpenter Park Fields.
  • The Battle of the Bands Competition, at the Carpenter Park Amphitheater, 10:20 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Organizers of the Canine Frisbee Competition are also looking for another venue to hold their event, but it has not been announced yet.
