Wake up and smell the bacon - in Keystone

KEYSTONE - If you believe the saying, "everything tastes better with bacon," then this Colorado weekend festival is for you.

The Blue Ribbon Bacon Tour is happening at Keystone Resort's River Run Village from June 21 to 22. This is the fourth year for the festival that features more than 3,000 pounds of bacon in just about every shape, size and variety from bacon ice cream to bacon s'mores, bacon drinks and samples of bacon strips.

It's become a "must-do" summer event in the High Country.

According to bacon lover and event organizer, Maja Russer, the event has almost tripled and attracts people from around the country and the world.

"It's no surprise," Russer said. "People really, and I mean really, love bacon."

People have shown up to the festival dressed like bacon, wearing bacon hats and carrying stuffed bacon toys in baby carriers. In addition to bacon tastings, there will be beer, Colorado's Largest Bacon Bloody Mary Bar - with bacon and plenty of other "fixins," bacon seminars, a bacon eating contest and free music from Hell's Belles, Big Onions and Terrance Simien & The Zydeco.

Share your love for bacon with the hashtags #keystonemoments and #keystonebacon in advance to the event and you could get free tickets.

Bacon tastings are $4 per ticket/taste or tasting packages range from $30 to $50 for adults and includes beverages and more. The Keystone Neighbourhood Company donates a portion of the event's proceeds to The Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, a local nonprofit that helps protect our National Forest land.
