Local sports bar and grill has Avs fever, "BAArger"

KUSA - The first playoff appearance in four years for the Colorado Avalanche means big business for local restaurants.

Chopper's Sports Grill has been serving the Cherry Creek neighborhood for nearly 20 years.

They stopped by 9NEWS this morning to cook up some of their famous burgers for our anchors and Bernie, the Avs St. Bernard mascot.

They are best known for their "BAArger," a lamb patty topped with Arugula, slow roasted tomatoes, feta cheese, homemade dijon and a basalmic glaze.

An employee who grilled some burgers for us says the "BAArger" is his personal favorite.

Chopper's has their own butcher, who creates a proprietary blend of ground beef. The chefs would not reveal the blend; it's a secret recipe.

Chopper's is named after Robert "Chopper" Traviglini, a former trainer for the Denver Nuggets.

Traviglini died in 1999, and the local grill claims they are "the place" to watch a local sporting event, particularly the Avs.

They expect a large turnout for game two Saturday against the Minnesota Wild.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. and will air on NBC Sports Network and Altitude Sports.
