DENVER - Have family in town for Easter this weekend and looking for something besides an Easter Egg hunt? There's a National BBQ tour coming to town with a $500,000 prize up for grabs.
Competitors will be trying to get a spot in the national championship which will be held at the Sam's Club headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. The national tour holds the title as the largest and richest barbecue event ever.
All-Star Pitmaster Troy Black, former editor of Southern Living magazine, will headline the national tour in Denver on April 19. The event will be held at the Sam's Club at 7805 East 35th Ave. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Since 2011, the Sam's Club National BBQ Tour has traveled the United States searching for the year's best in competitive barbecue and awarding teams more than $1.4 million in total prize money. More than 700 teams are expected to compete across the nation.
The Sam's Club National BBQ Tour is a tournament-style series in which teams must advance from a local qualifying event to the top tier of their regional event in order to qualify for the National Championship and a shot at the $500,000 Grand Champion prize.
